Etihad Airways has announced its plans to operate all its flights to Paris on an Airbus A380 with effect from October 1, 2018. The move will make Paris the second European city to be served by an all-A380 daily flight service by Etihad. Earlier, one of the two daily services was operated by a Boeing 777-300ER and the other was an A380.

The introduction of the A380 aircraft on both services will boost passenger capacity and enable more passengers to experience the latest award-winning cabins, products and services offered by Etihad Airways. The A380 operated by Etihad has 2 The Residence Suites*, 9 First Class Seats**, 70 Business Class seats and 415 Economy Class Seats.

Commenting on the move, Peter Baumgartner, Chief Executive Officer, Etihad Airways said, "Paris has always been a very special destination on the Etihad network and the number of visitors from France to Abu Dhabi, and vice versa has continued to show significant growth. The route has never been more in demand."

"We have seized the opportunity to place our flagship Airbus A380 on our second daily flight, following the great reception the aircraft has received from our guests, and to ensure we offer product consistency on the route. This will also allow us to significantly increase the number of leisure and premium seats available, providing more options for those wanting to travel point-to-point between Abu Dhabi and Paris, two capitals now also united by Louvre museums, or to connect via our Abu Dhabi hub to points all over the Middle East, Asia and Australia."

Etihad Airways’ A380s feature a total capacity of 496 seats - up to two in The Residence, nine in First Class, 70 in Business Class and 415 in the Economy Class cabin. The aircraft replaces the currently deployed on the popular route.

*The Residence is an ultra-private, three-room suite featuring a living room with a 32” LCD monitor, bedroom with a double bed, separate en-suite shower room and dedicated personal butler.

**The nine First Apartments feature a flat-screen television, a chilled mini-bar, personal vanity unit, wardrobe and a fully equipped shower room.

Etihad Airways has announced its plans to introduce a Boeing 787 for one of its daily flights to Cairo, Egypt. The 299-seat Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner will operate the mid-morning flight from Abu Dhabi to Cairo with effect from October 28, 2018. The airline operates four daily flights to Cairo at present.

Etihad's Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner features 28 Business Studios with fully-flat beds with direct aisle access, in-seat massage and pneumatic cushion control systems, and an 18-inch personal touch-screen TV with noise-cancelling headsets. Passengers flying on the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner Business Class also enjoy on-board Wi-Fi and mobile

connectivity. In Economy Class, Etihad offers 271 seats with unique fixed wing headrests, adjustable lumbar support and a personal 11.1" TV monitor for each seat.

Commenting on the introduction of the higher-end aircraft, Mohammad Al Bulooki, Executive Vice President - Commercial, Etihad Airways said, "The introduction of the state-of-the-art 787 Dreamliner on the popular morning service from Abu Dhabi will provide guests with the latest innovation and technology, award-winning cabins, genuine hospitality and greater choice."

Etihad Airways has announced an enhancement to its chauffeur services in the UAE with new features that will enable passengers more control over the entire process with immediate effect.

With the new features, guests will be easily able to book the chauffeur service up to 12 hours prior to their flight departure time, receive SMS & e-mail confirmations, and connect with their chauffeur. In addition, they can easily manage the service including amend or cancel their booking, directly through the airline's update APP, doing away the need to call Customer Service or their travel agency.

The optimized chauffeur service is provided by a fleet of Mercedes-Benz E-Class luxury sedans and includes timely pick-up and drop-off. First Class guests are transported directly to their aircraft on the tarmac on Mercedes-Benz S-Class vehicles, especially if the aircraft is standing in a remote location, away from the terminal.

The airline is planning to enable Etihad Guest members to use their miles to book their private transfers within UAE in the near future. Guests of all cabins will be able to avail this service.

Emirates Airlines has announced the launch of A380 flight services to Osaka, Japan with effect from October 28, 2018. The A380 will replace the existing Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft operating on the route, leading to a boost in passenger capacity and enhanced services for guests. The Emirates A380 that will operate on the route has 14 First Class Private Suites, 76 fully flat-bed Business Class seats and 399 Economy Class seats. The flights to Osaka have Japanese-speaking crew onboard and in-flight entertainment includes over 100 channels of Japanese movies, TV Shows, music and other content. Emirates Airlines is also the first Middle-Easter Airline to serve Kaiseki-inspired meals onboard for First Class passengers. Business Class passengers have the option of traditional bento boxes as well.

Qatar Airways has announced its plans to launch its award-winning Qsuite Business Class Seats on its flights to the cities of Canberra and Sydney in Australia. Flight services with the new Qsuite seats will commence with effect from July 1, 2018 with four times a week service for the first month. With effect from August 1, daily flight services will commence.

The announcement comes close on the heels of the start of the airline's flight services to Canberra via Sydney.

Qatar Airways has announced enhancements to its onboard dining menu for Economy Class passengers. The enhancements that include a 25% larger serving in hot meals, newly-designed and larger casserole dishes, will be put into effect in a phased manner starting from July 1, 2018.

Other planned enhancements include covers depicting brightly coloured artwork and redesigned in-flight menus with new delicious meals for medium and longer-haul routes. The new Samsung Experience Zone, opened in conjunction with the Samsung Gulf Electronics, enables passengers to try out the showcased cutting-edge Samsung products and experience for themselves the latest products before buying them in the market. Flights arriving at and/or departing from Australia will now face additional screening for powders following a directive from Aviation authorities. Passengers will be required to present all powders in their carry-on baggage separately for screening. Restrictions will be imposed on only certain types of powders; carriage of most common powders will remain free of restrictions.

According to a press release issued by TravelSECURE, even domestic flights departing from International terminals will be subject to the restrictions for liquids, aerosol, gels, and powders. Items packed in checked baggage will not be subject to restrictions.

Powdered baby formula, coffee, sugar, and other organic food powders will not be restricted. Medical prescription medicines and over-the-counter medicinal drugs in powder form will be allowed as far as there is a Doctor's prescription or note as evidence for its requirement. Therapeutic products other than a medical product – used for the treatment or management of a medical condition, will likewise, be allowed with a Doctor's note or prescription.

Duty free products purchased in the airport and still in sealed packets or containers will not face any restrictions. A proof of purchase such as a bill will be required. This applies to international transit passengers as well.

On the other hand, items such as sand, salt, talcum powder etc. can be carried albeit in limited quantities. Like liquids, powders too will have a maximum permissible quantity of 350gm per person.

At the airport screening point, passengers will be required to take out the powders from their carry-on baggage and place them separately in a tray for X-ray examination.

All Nippon Airways (ANA) has announced enhancements to its domestic self-service check-in kiosks. The new enhancements will enable seamless travel for passengers connecting from domestic to international flights as these kiosks have passport readers enabled and allow through check-in facilities as well. Passengers on these flights and using these facilities will now have to check-in just once.

ANA is the first airline in Japan to introduce passport readers to its domestic check-in kiosks that can read the passenger's passport information and print the boarding passes for both the domestic and international flight.

The upgraded kiosks will first be installed at the Hiroshima Airport; services will commence with effect from July. All the kiosks at all the 50 airports serviced by ANA within Japan will be upgraded by the end of October.

The move will result in a significant increase to efficiency and customer convenience at the Japan Domestic Airports.

A press release issued by ANA stated, "Passengers who have bought tickets with fares such as the Experience Japan fare, who for the time being have to check-in for domestic flights at a counter, will also be able to check-in using the enhanced check-in kiosks."

"To help Japan reach 40 million tourists by 2020, ANA is continuing to enhance its airport services and provide a faster travel experience. Its check-in kiosks provide a menu available in five languages; Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean, to ease the check-in process, and from June 28, 2018, ANA introduced automated baggage check-in at Fukuoka Airport. This will be the third airport to have these machines and provide passengers convenient check-in," the press release continued.

Star Alliance has announced the opening of a new lounge at the Fiumicino Airport at Rome. The new premium lounge will be exclusively for the use of eligible First and Business Class passengers and Star Alliance Gold Card holders. The lounge will open on June 29, 2018.

The lounge is located on the upper level of Boarding Zone D in Terminal 3 of the Fiumicino Airport and will provide easy access to the departure gates for Star Alliance member flights to European cities falling within the Schengen zone.

Free Wi-Fi connectivity throughout the lounge, a mix of standard and USB power outlets for recharging electronic devices, a private space for making phone calls, and excellent dining establishments are some of the features of this lounge. The lounge has the accommodation capacity of around 130 guests and is available for use daily from 0515 hrs to 2115 hrs.

In Rome, Italian designer furniture gives an elegant, modern and fashionable look, along with functional spaces to work, relax or socialise in. 17 Star Alliance member carriers serve Rome, providing non-stop services to 25 destinations across 20 countries.

Virgin Atlantic has announced its plans to cease its flight services between Dubai and London Heathrow. The airline will stop flying on the route after March 31, 2019. Tickets can be booked for the last flight on March 31.

According to a press release issued by the airline, the airline has taken this decision after conducting a thorough review of its network and coming to the conclusion that the route is no longer economically viable due to a combination of external factors.

"Until March 31 2019, Virgin Atlantic will continue to operate its daily flights between Dubai and London Heathrow as planned, with new bookings still available until the last flight," the press release stated.

Commenting on the decision, Shai Weiss, Chief Commercial Officer, Virgin Atlantic said, "It‘s never an easy decision to withdraw a route, and we’d like to thank our customers and dedicated team in Dubai for their loyalty over the last 12 years. We’ll continue to offer daily flights between Dubai and London Heathrow until 31 March 2019, and will be sad to say goodbye to this fantastic city."

Lufthansa Airlines has announced the launch of an AirlineCheckins App, an app developed by its Innovation Hub, to enable users to check-in automatically for their flight, while taking into account their pre-set individual seat preferences. The app will work for all the airlines that offer online check-ins.

Users can update personal information and preferences such as seating preferences, frequent flyer information, travel partners, and even monitor the check-in status of their flights and manage their flights. An alert feature notifies the user about the current flight status and any changes to the boarding gate.

More services including a subscription model that will provide users access to airport lounges and free in-flight Wi-Fi will be added in later upgrades.

Commenting on the launch, Kristian Weymar, AirlineCheckins Project Lead, Lufthansa Innovation Hub said, "Our users are fans of automatic check-ins. With the app, we are now responding to the need for greater transparency and faster access to the service. Moreover, the survey has given us valuable insights into how we can further develop the service for our frequent flyers. On this basis, we are now continually expanding our app with additional travel services."

The app is also available as a corporate solution for businesses. The app can be integrated into corporate travel management systems through a newly developed API; company employees can then be automatically checked-in for business trips.

SWISS Airlines has announced the launch of Economy Light Airfares for all its flights to North American destinations. The new fares are the lowest fares offered by the airline and include only carry-on luggage and in-flight food & drink. Eligible passengers can still get bonus and status miles. There will be additional charges to book a check-in baggage on a per-piece basis and to book preferred seats.

SWISS Airline is launching the new Economy Light fares in conjunction with Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines and Brussels Airlines. The new fares are currently limited to flights to North American destinations.

With the launch of the new airfare, passengers have a wider choice of airfares and experiences in Economy Class itself for all North American Routes - including Economy Light, Economy Saver, Economy Basic and Economy Flex. The main difference between these Economy airfares are only with respect to baggage allowances, rebooking and cancellation policies.

SWISS Airlines has announced the launch of its redesigned Business & Senator Lounge at Zurich Airport. The lounge is located within the Lounge Centre A at the Zurich Airport and will be open for services with effect from July 2, 2018.

According to a press release issued by the airline announcing the opening of the lounges, "the new-look lounges have been particularly aligned to the needs of short-haul SWISS premium travellers, with facilities that include separate lounge entrances and digital access control."

Both the Business and Senator Lounges will feature separate entrances with automated entry gates that scan boarding passes to permit entry. Guests can choose their level of privacy from a selection of lounge niches, workstations, individual offices and even relaxation rooms with inviting loungers.

Both lounges also feature showering facilities, separate outdoor areas for smokers, a bar with air-side centre views, and dining areas that include bistro sections and front-cooking zones, and a collection of miniature SWISS Chocolates.

The Business Lounge also features the “SWISS Alpenstübli” in which The Airline of Switzerland will present its home country in all its regional variety on a series of large screens. The room is also decked out with allergy-friendly straw wallpaper, and uses a 3D model to give guests a unique visual impression of SWISS’s national home.

The new Lounge Centre A will be open daily from 05:30 to 22:30.

All Business Class passengers travelling by SWISS Airlines / the Lufthansa Group of Airlines / Star Alliance member airlines and members of Miles & More Frequent Flyer programs will be able to access the Business Lounge.

The Senator Lounge will be exclusively available to Miles & More Senators, Star Alliance Gold Members and First Class travellers on Star Alliance member airlines.

British Airways has announced the launch of a new partnership with Fiji Airways for opening new routes between London and the South Pacific region. The partnership will enable British Airways to start selling flights from Singapore, Los Angeles, and San Francisco to the Fijian Gateway of Nadi and enable passengers to earn more Avios loyalty points when flying on either of the two airlines.

The partnership comes close on the heels of the signing up of Fiji Airways as the first oneworld connect partner with British Airways as the sponsor. The oneworld connect partner is a new platform that enables airlines to link up to the global alliance.

New Flight Launches
IndiGo Airlines has announced the addition of new destinations and flights to its route map as part of a domestic network strengthening exercise. The airline has launched flights to 4 new destinations this month - Surat, Jorhat, Tuticorin and Dhaka, taking the count of total number of domestic destinations in the airline's network up to 56.

The airline has also launched new flights from Lucknow to Pune and Goa, Jaipur to Varanasi and Guwahati, Mumbai to Bagdogra, and Bengaluru to Raipur. Additional frequencies on several other routes have been begun as well.

New IndiGo Flights to Surat:
Surat is the latest addition to the airline's route network. The airline is expected to commence services to Surat from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Jaipur with effect from August 2018.

SpiceJet Airlines has announced the launch of 14 new flights on its domestic network. The new flights reiterate the airline's commitment to the UDAN scheme and connect new tier-II cities to the airline's route network. The new flights will commence services with effect from July 1, 2018.

A press release issued by the airline stated, "The airline has been pitching for more flights to non- metros and smaller cities from major airports in the country. With the new flights, passengers from the relatively small towns like Rajahmundry, Patna, Tuticorin and Calicut can now also easily travel to a host of other cities both on SpiceJet’s domestic as well as international network via multiple onward connections from key metros like Bengaluru, Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad."

SWISS Airlines has announced its plans to expand its European network with new flights from Zurich for the upcoming winter season. The new seasonal schedule will include new flight services from Zurich to Bremen in Germany, Geneva to Kittila in Finland and Palma de Mallorca. The airline has also announced its plans to make year-round their flight services to Sylt in Germany, Bordeaux in France, and Brindisi in Italy.

New SWISS Flights from Zurich to Germany:
The airline will launch new flights from Zurich to Bremen with a 12 times a week frequency for the upcoming winter season. Two flights will be operated daily from Monday to Friday; they will be complemented by a flight each on Saturday and Sunday.

The German North Sea island of Sylt will be served by seasonal flights on Wednesday and Saturday over the Christmas & New Year holiday season.

New SWISS Flights from Geneva:
SWISS Airlines will also be launching new flights from Geneva to Kittilä in Finland and Palma de Mallorca. Flights to Kittila will have a weekly Saturday service that will operate seasonally, specifically from December 22, 2018 to March 2, 2019. Palma de Mallorca will be connected with a new weekly service that will operate on Saturday between December and March.

According to a press release issued by the airline, flights from Zurich to Bordeaux, France will be operated on a 12-times-a-week frequency, while Brindisi in Italy will be connected by a twice-weekly flight service on Friday and Sunday.

"SWISS will also be continuing the four-times-weekly Zurich-Kiev service that was introduced this summer throughout the coming winter timetable period. The Ukrainian capital will be served Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays," the press release continued.

In addition, SWISS airline will be increasing its frequencies on existing routes including flights from Zurich to Madrid, Berlin, Hamburg and Dusseldorf. Flights from Geneva to Porto (Portugal), Moscow (Russia) and Marrakech (Morocco) will also be a seasonal increase in flight services.

Winter timetables at SWISS come into effect on October 28. Flight bookings are open.

Schedule of new SpiceJet flights:
Air Canada has announced the launch of non-stop flights on three new domestic routes. The new seasonal routes include Victoria to Montreal and Toronto to Kamloops and Nanaimo. Services have commenced on all three routes.

Air Canada Rouge A319, the airline's leisure carrier with features such as high-speed Wi-Fi and two cabins, will operate on the route. All the three flight routes have been timed to ensure convenient connections with the airline's international flights.

A press release issued by Air Canada stated, "All flights are timed to connect conveniently with Air Canada's global schedule, and provide for Aeroplan accumulation and redemption, Star Alliance reciprocal benefits, and for eligible customers, priority check-in, Maple Leaf Lounge access at mainline airports, priority boarding and other benefits."

Air Canada has announced the launch of several new international flights from the city of Montreal, Canada. The new flights include seasonal flights to the city of Lisbon in Portugal, Bucharest in Romania, Dublin in Ireland. Visas & Passport
The Ministry of External Affairs has launched a new scheme and an app that enables applicants to apply for their passports with ease from any place across India, irrespective of their present residential address.

New Scheme:
Under the new scheme, applicants can choose the regional passport office (RPO) and the corresponding choice of passport seva kendra (PSK), even if their residential address falls outside of the jurisdiction of the chosen RPO and PSK.

According to a press report by PTI, "The Police Verification, if required for a specific passport, would be conducted at the address specified in the application form. The passport will be printed and despatched by the RPO selected for application submission by the applicant."

The new scheme was launched on the occasion of the 6th Passport Seva Divas. Applicants are requested to visit the Passport Portal at www.passportIndia.gov.in for further details on this new scheme.

New App:
The ministry has also launched a new mobile APP that will enable interested applicants to apply, pay for and schedule appointments for passport services, without the requirement of a printer and a computer. The app, aptly named mPassportSeva Mobile App is available in Android and iOS platforms.

The mPassport Seva App will now support enhanced set of passport services such as:

VFS Global has announced the launch of a new Premium Lounge in Kochi; the lounge is exclusively for the use of UK Visa Applicants and is the first such lounge in Kerala and the second in India. VFS Global launched its first Premium Lounge in India in South Mumbai. The organization is aiming at brand standardization, which includes ensuring that all VFS Global Visa Application Centres and Premium Lounges feature similar designs and looks, irrespective of their geographical location.

The Premium Lounge in Kochi offers applicants a world-class service experience with end-to-end personalised service including assistance with all visa-related queries, quicker completion of application submission process, and immediate biometric enrolment.

The UK Premium Lounge in Kochi, Kerala was inaugurated on Friday by Mr. Michael Lutz, Regional Manager, South & South East Asia, Home Office-UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI).

Commenting on the launch of the lounge, Mr Lutz said, "It was my pleasure to help launch the first VFS Global Premium Lounge in Kochi today. This is another step in the shared ambition of UKVI and VFS Global to offer a world class visa service in India that was clear, efficient and customer friendly. Through this latest expansion, together we are doing just that by offering Indian customers even more diversity and choice as they make their visa application. This will make it even easier for Indian customers to visit the UK and experience all the sights and experiences that we have to offer. The new lounge is in addition to the 18 UK Visa Application Centres already offered across India the most in any country and I look forward to further such announcements in the future.''

A press release issued on the subject stated, "In addition to the personal touch and comfort offered, applicants who opt for the Premium Lounge service can also avail several additional benefits to further ease their visa application process, including complimentary photo copying and photo-booth services as per parameters specified by the Embassy and High Commission, and use the in-house equipment to print out of any mandatory documents that may have been forgotten."

"Furthermore, once a decision is made on the visa application, the passport and documents will be delivered to their doorstep by courier. Automatic updates at each stage of the visa application will also be shared via voice calls and SMS," the press release continued.
